Beat it 2007. Hello Two Thousand and Wicked!
Hell yes. 2007 is over and it’s time to look back at those magical 365.25 days before they become a distant memory — relegated to spend the rest of eternity in between audio cassettes and Pauly Shore.
Here’s a sampling of the best music that tickled my inner ear hairs in 2007. Most of it was released in the last year, but some of it’s just stuff I discovered in the last 12 months. In no particular order the best 10 would be…
- The BellRays – Have a Little Faith
- Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings – 100 Days, 100 Nights
- Suck – Time to Suck
- Born Ruffians – S/T
- The Weakerthans – Reunion Tour
- The Black Lips – Good Bad Not Evil
- Dungen – Tio Bitar
- Demon’s Claws – S/T
- Wild Billy Childish & The Musicians of the British Empire – Punk Rock at the British Legion Hall
- Simply Saucer – Cyborgs Revisited
Stopping at 10 is stupid. Let’s make it 15 instead.
- The Mongrels – Oshawa
- Joel Plaskett – Ashtray Rock
- BRMC – Baby 81
- The Shins – Wincing the Night Away
- C’Mon – Bottled Lightning
If you’ve got iTunes installed you should be able to click on those links to listen to the tracks. Hell, you could even buy the music and support these fine bands. Twas’ a good year for rock. I expect 2008 will be just as good, based strictly on the fact that 2/3 of the Jam is touring together. Sold out in Vancouver already. Oh well.
Resolutions, I’ve got a few: reduce the circumference of my neck to a manageable 15 and 1/4″, continue to make little to no impression when I meet new people, meet Criss Angel, and write a hit song about the Olympics.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Prima Donna, U2, Eric's Trip, By Divine Right, Tricky Woo, Heartless Bastards, New Bomb Turks, The Rolling Stones, The Sadies, The Kinks, Nirvana, Lou Barlow, Elvis Presley, The Greenhornes
That’s funny Steve. You and I have the same resolution. I’ve foresaken quitting smoking, losing weight, and becoming a better person in exchange for meeting the magic industry’s icon. He is incredible on so many levels.
