I Gotta Grammy Some Credibility
In an age where the Grammys are more irrelevant and out of touch with today’s music industry than ever, it was refreshing to see this come out of last night’s broadcast.
This adaptation of the song is from the movie Across the Universe, which I recommend everybody go see. Aside from that, it sure proves that the Beatles music still stands head and shoulders above anything else being done today.
On a related note, it was nice to see Amy Winehouse clean up last night (a priceless reaction to her winning record of the year). Despite all that crap in the media about her personal life I’m glad the Grammys were able to demonstrate a rare bit of non-terrible judgment in awarding her with a few trophies. What puzzles me though is why somebody so heavily influenced by the classic sounds of Stax and Motown is in the pop/rock category instead of R&B. Doesn’t make much sense to me. Just because her music has real guitars and drums and no synth doesn’t mean it’s not R&B. Get her in the category she belongs in so she can she can put on a clinic on what real soul music sounds like.
