Josh Homme loses it

posted June 18, 2008 in Music / Wow

Josh Homme verbally sends some dude back to the stone age after the guy chucks something at the band during a Norwegian festival.  I’m sure they forgave each other after the show for being such meanie-heads.

Not Entirely Surprising…

CTV has bought the rights in perpetuity for the Hockey Night in Canada theme song.  But like the guy from CBC says in the article: every time they play it on another network they’re promoting the CBC.  I’m sure that’s going to be true for at least the next 15 years.  I still call the arena where the Sens fuck up constantly play the Palladium.

It’ll be interesting to see how CTV uses the tune. I’m sure they’ll want to put a bit of their own spin on it (perhaps getting Timbaland involved in some capacity) or else risk having people think they’re watching the CBC. Something that’s probably bad for both networks.  Especially CBC. But especially CTV.

I like the idea of using Stompin’ Tom’s Hockey Song as the new theme.  Screw the contest.  Tom deserves it and when his son says “he’s open to licensing” that means he needs the money… bad.  How can the CBC turn a cold shoulder on a living legend like that?

CBC is Axing the Hockey Night in Canada Theme Song?

How long do you think this ridiculousness is going to last?

I hope the CBC complaints department is amply-staffed and prepared for the absolute onslaught of hatred they’ve summoned from deep within the belly of Canada. Remember when they almost dropped the ball with Ron MacLean and the public outcry that forced them to fix that one?  I imagine they’ll be announcing a new licensing arrangement to bring the theme song back within a week.

Bunch of nimrods… pay the $500 per play and never change the song again. Ever.

In other news: Jay-Z has been tapped by Stephen Harper to pen a new version of the national anthem…

Update: I’ve been informed by unnamed sources that this is somewhat of a ploy being perpetrated by the songwriter, Dolores Claman, to give herself leverage as she renegotiates licensing with CBC. Apparently CBC hasn’t dropped the song (yet) and is in talks with Dolores… very sneaky, Claman. We’ll just have to see how this plays out.
