Southwestbound & Down

posted March 16, 2009 in Music

Heading to Austin with Chris on Wednesday night for SXSW music… where 3 billion bands will play 2 trillion shows in 6 million clubs in the span of 5 earth days. Here’s a feeble attempt to bookmark some of the shows I’d like to check out.  Everything before 6pm is basically reserved for eating ribs.

untitledFollow me on twitter/facebook/here as I will attempt to document the experience… *without* racking up a massive Rogers bill. This is my challenge.

Kiss is back in the studio

kiss

Damn straight! Kiss is back for their first studio album in over 10 years. No pretentious attempts to make music relevant to 2009 here — Kiss knows what Kiss does best: straight up 70s rock. I mean honestly, who does it better?

(FYI – that’s a rhetorical question, no need to pulverize me with “Kiss sucks and they’re too old” comments)

Although without Ace and Peter it’s not technically Kiss.  But I’ll take 50% of Kiss over 0% any day.

Dead Weather

posted March 12, 2009 in Music

Jack White has a new band called Dead Weather. Features Alison Mosshart from the Kills on vox, Jack Lawrence (Greenhornes/Racounters) on bass geetar and Dead Fertita from QOTSA on electric geetar. White plays drums and sings too. Just like Don Henley!

The album drops in June but you can here the first single right here…
