Worth seeing just because they’ve got a Stooges track in the trailer…
September 30th, 1989 on Saturday Night Live
A man possessed! What Neil had to say afterwards in a Village Voice interview…
Yeah, well I was. I don’t like TV. Never have. It always sucks and there’s nothing you can do about it. You can’t just walk on and do ‘Rockin’ in the Free World,’ or you’ll look like a fuckin’ idiot. To perform that song the way it’s supposed to be performed you have to be at peak blood level, everything has to be up, the machine has to be stoked. To do that I had to ignore Saturday Night Live completely. I had to pretend I wasn’t there.
So Young developed ‘a brand new technique for doing TV’ - a half-hour before going on he worked out with his trainer, lifting weights and doing calisthenics to get himself wired.
I’m probably the last person to notice this because I had all but given up on the old site but the new ChartAttack is FINALLY online. I swear they’ve been pumping this up for like a year and a half at least in every issue… coming soon, my ass. New site looks good though - not quite as dead simple (i.e. made in 2000) as the old one but looks like it’s got some snazzy new features like commenting and RSS feeds. Hot diggity dawg!
Now I must go create an account so I can indicate which stories I love and hate.
